The Hudson Valley Center for Coordinated School Health
The Hudson Valley Student Support Services Center is a regional office
of the New York State Education Department established as part of a system
of Student Support Services and Wellness Centers. Its mission is to build
the capacity of local school districts to implement their own comprehensive
school health and wellness programs in a manner that is consistent with
the State Education Department's global mission. The fundamental principles
are to set high expectations and standards, build capacity, and measure
and report results. The Hudson Valley Student Support Services Center
will provide training, technical assistance, resources, and information
to schools and communities within the Joint Management Team (JMT) region.
Districts will be provided with services related to the components of
a comprehensive school health program, including the following:
- Health curriculum and instruction
- School health services
- Healthy school environment
- Physical activity, guidance and counseling services
- School nutrition
- Staff wellness
- Family/community involvement
In addition, Student Support Centers will provide expertise relevant
to the following content areas for which the State Education Department
receives categorical funding:
- Alcohol/tobacco/other drugs
- Violence prevention
- Nutrition
- Lifelong physical activity
- Sexually transmitted diseases
- Family life education
- HIV/AIDS
