Gifted & Talented / Challenge Program - Coser 412
Membership in this Coser offers participation in school, regional, state
and national competitions. All competitions will focus on improving student
achievement and will be aligned to the NY State Standards. Students of
all abilities will have the opportunity to learn problem-solving, communication
(both oral and written) and eamwork/cooperation. The service includes
but is not limited to:
Math Counts is one of the
country's largest and most successful education partnerships involving
volunteers, educators, industry sponsors, and students in grades six through
eight.
Countdown, a.k.a. Quiz Bowl,
is a local competition program for students and coaches in a game show
format that airs on Time Warner Cable Channel 6 each spring. Countdown
questions will be drawn from a pool of NY state standards-based questions.
National Spelling Bee is
the nation's largest and longest-running educational promotion. Its purpose
is to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies,
learn concepts, and develop correct English usage.

Geography Bee, a national
contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their
classrooms, spark student interest in the subject, and increase public
awareness about geography.
