Sullivan County Board of Cooperative Educational Services
Where Futures Begin!

District Superintendent

Our BOCES or Board of Cooperative Educational Services, is one of thirty-eight across New York State providing shared services to component school districts. The Sullivan County BOCES celebrated its 50 year anniversary providing service to the county in May 2000. Our BOCES has an extensive Career and Technical Education (CTE) program offering vocational training to high school age students in health careers, trade careers, and pre-professional areas. The CTE program has classes both at our Rubin Pollack Education Center in Liberty and the St. John Street Education Center in Monticello.

The Sullivan County BOCES provides educational services for students with disabilities who require programs that cannot be provided in their home districts. The majority of the classes are at the Rubin Pollack Education center with several in-district classes at the Roscoe Central and Liberty Central Schools.

The BOCES operates an Alternative Education program at the Youngsville School. Students who have had difficulty learning in a traditional middle or high school environment attend the Youngsville School. There they receive a full New York State program of instruction leading to a Regents diploma.

The Sullivan County BOCES also operates a comprehensive Adult Education Program. Housed at the St. John Street Education Center and at numerous sites throughout the county, our Adult Education Programs offers courses in subjects ranging from computer office skills and computer network management to high school equivalency. There is an extensive program of English classes for speakers of other languages as well.

The BOCES also provides instructional support programs for our districts. These programs range from drug, alcohol and tobacco prevention to staff and curriculum development for our teachers. Teachers have the opportunity to take numerous courses in integrating instructional technology into their classrooms.

These are but a few of the programs and services offered by the Sullivan County BOCES. We invite you to browse our web site to learn more. I personally invite you to contact me for more information by calling (845) 295-4015 or by email mhandler@scboces.org
