This English Composition I course is offered through SUNY Sullivan at a discounted rate to our Career and Technical Education New Vision students.  These high school  students have the opportunity to substantially advance their writing skills while earning three college credits.
Composition I students develop the critical reading, writing, and analytic skills essential to all higher level academic work.  They delve fully into the writing process, crafting several long papers.  Their work includes extensive pre-writing, independent research, the workshopping of papers, and writing multiple drafts of their essays.  They come to understand writing as an in-depth process of inquiry, discovery, and clarification.  They learn how to hone their craft, how to most effectively reach their audience, and how to write in a voice that is authentically their own.

"Love the writing, love the writing, love the writing... the rest will follow."  Jane Yolen
"Talent is helpful in writing, but guts are absolutely essential."  Jessamyn West
"Successful writers are not the ones who write the best sentences. They are the ones
who keep writing.  They are the ones who discover what is most important and
strangest and most pleasurable in themselves, and keep believing in the
value of their work, despite the difficulties."  Bonnie Friedman
