On July 13, the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) recognized Assemblywoman Gunther, Rolling V Bus Corp., Sullivan 180, and Sullivan BOCES as Champions of Change for their Mobile Classroom Initiative. John Redman, Area 9 Director at NYSSBA, presented the BOCES Board of Education and the Mobile Classroom partners with a Champions of Change banner for all to see.
“The Mobile Classroom is emblematic of the partnerships we all envy and hope for within a community. We are proud of what Assemblywoman Gunther, Rolling V Bus Corp., Sullivan 180, and Sullivan BOCES have been able to accomplish with this initiative and what they have done for students and their community,” said John Redman.
About the Mobile Classroom:
The group collaborated to create an innovative remote learning environment providing Internet access for students in need: a mobile classroom in a converted school bus. Enabling students to learn remotely while being socially distanced. The concept began development when the group discussed the need after the pandemic closed school in the spring of 2020. The vision for the mobile classroom’s use stretches beyond the pandemic. Rolling V and BOCES plan on continued access to schools and community organizations like Sullivan 180, the Center for Workforce Development, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Sullivan Allies Leading Together (SALT) Coalition, and Sullivan Renaissance. Other options include mobile offices, job fairs, education tours, showcasing of community programs, and other considerations that would benefit the community.
